We started the night off strong. The first 15 minutes gave us Joanna Pacitti, the dropped artist with the whole package. Simon loved and recognized her instantly — she will go far … at least top-five week far. We also got Mark Mudd, the type of “bad” auditions we like to see, and Brent Keith. Judging from commercial coverage, Brent will have much more camera time.
Speaking of my relatives, Mark Mudd, the native from Cox Creek, must have some Hatfield and McCoys in him (I do). He just swaggers like one whose entire family has feuded for generations for no reason. At the very least he claims Dr. Samuel Mudd (the man who fixed John Wilkes Booth’s leg immediately after Lincoln’s assassination) in his lineage. He sang “White Lightning” (which my great-grandpa was known for making).
I want to give a shout-out to the producers for skimming over the uninteresting “bad” auditions (unlike last night) and letting us meet Ross Plavsic and Aaron Williamson. Ross the “super nerd” just has to be the next Chinese Idol; he has an organizational system for Chinese symbols and is obsessed with air and water. He just needs to throw fire and wind into the mix. Aaron Williamson was a hometown boy who will not be the “Next Top Idol” but represented his city well … and may I say INTENSELY. Both of these ex-hopefuls were such good sports.
